Renée Suen is a (WSET Level 1 Award in Wines certified) restaurant and travel writer/photographer based in Toronto who searches the world for memorable tastes and the stories behind the plate. In another life, she pursued a doctorate in Cardiovascular Sciences, but now specializes in covering the Canadian food scene, much of it through ambient-light photography. She is a columnist at SingTao's EliteGen magazine, and a contributor to Chatelaine, Toronto Star Travel, re:Porter and more. Formerly the food and lifestyle/travel editor at Zoomer Media (ZOOMER Magazine and blogTO) and columnist for Toronto Star Wheels, she's best known for her decade-plus contributions at Toronto Life. Her works have appeared in Reader's Digest, Food & Wine, The Globe and Mail, AFAR, enRoute, WestJet Magazine, CBC Life, Best Health, NUVO, Bon Appétit and Wall Street Journal. A firm believer in health and wellness, Renée was also the recipe editor and a senior contributor to Inspired Cooking (2016) - a cookbook, anthology and resource focused on providing health- and nutrition-driven recipes to all Canadians.
She is the Mid-USA and Mid-Canada Academy Chair for The World's 50 Best Restaurants, head Toronto judge for the Canadian Culinary Championship, a panellist for various restaurant ranking surveys, former Vacay.ca Top Restaurants in Canada list chair, and a guest judge on Iron Chef Canada.
